Winter could be a whopper, forecasters say
The most intense La Niña conditions since 1955 are brewing near the equator, raising the odds of a wild winter in the Pacific Northwest. Meteorologists say more rain, colder temperatures and bigger snowstorms are likely.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Service’s is predicting a moderate to strong La Nina cycle to develop for the remainder of 2010 and into 2011. This bodes well for snow in the Sun Valley area. Historically, during La Nina cycles, the mountains surrounding Sun Valley have received significantly above average snow fall.
